Life in Casper: Day 1

My first night in Casper was filled with a dreamless bliss. I slept deep, my exhaustion from the day finally over. When I woke the next day, my first official morning in Casper, I felt refreshed and ready to explore. I woke up early for me, around 9am, and joined my best friend, Mikkola, and her boyfriend, Dar-Dar, on the couch.

The previous night, I forgot to mention, was a little stressed. Her 6 month old black lab mix puppy was not okay with my presence in the apartment. She barked at my every move and moved back, completely terrified, but still trying to hold her ground. Nothing I did seemed to satisfy her.

The Adorable terror

That first morning was no different. She barked and growled whenever she saw me come near, making it both difficult and uncomfortable for me to walk around the house. Thankfully, we dropped her off at her doggie daycare, and the three of us went to a sandwich shop attached to a gas station called Schlotzsky's. They made a bunch of delicious sandwiches, but I decided to try the bacon grilled cheese sandwich. I was delighted, when I got to eat it later, to find that it also had avocados in it! While the bacon and the avocados were delicious, I found that it lacked the right amount of cheese to rightfully be called a grilled cheese sandwich.

After brunch, Mikkola and I proceeded to do a bit of shopping. We went to both Sam's Club and Walmart to get ingredients for dinner and to purchase the necessary bathroom items I had not packed. Everything went well and before long we were back at the apartment. We hung around for part of the day talking and enjoying being together again. We caught up on some of our favorite shows and talked theories for a while.

We went back to pick up her puppy Cheyenne, aka Shea Butters, aka Chey-Chey. She didn't bark at me when we were there or in the car, so I thought it was progress! But of course, the second we got inside the apartment, she was barking up a storm. I tried feeding her treats so she'd associate me with something good, and it helped a little, but she still wasn't too thrilled about my presence there. At one point though, while Mikkola and I were on the bed, she did decide to come up between us and lie down. Again, progress! Eventually she started cooking dinner, a delicious porkchop meal, and we all happily ate it.

She still wasn't too keen on me, but progress!

The last thing we did that night was weigh ourselves as well as measure our arms, hips, waist, bust, and thighs. We had already planned that we were going to start trying to not only eat healthier, but exercise. We each had our goals set for the summer. Mine was to lose 50 pounds or go down at least 2 pants sizes. The measurements were a huge wake up call. When we were done, we looked up some stretches on Pinterest and did them before bed.

Before the night was over, we both agreed to wake up at 7am the next day to start doing morning yoga. She'd read that those morning stretches would help us wake up and give us more energy throughout the day.

I hope she's right!
